Marco Zamudio: Arion & Venus
Our featured artists Lisa G of France and David Roy Ocotla of Mexico are exhibiting in Merida for the first time. While Lisa G and David celebrate life through their artistic creations of utopia, their enthralling works represent powerful alternatives to these dystopian times.
Born in Montreal, Lisa is a self-taught artist working and living near Paris, France. Lisa G's spellbinding images captivate the imagination and draw you into the characters she creates on canvas. Magical faces and images of mythical animals are hidden in nature.
Lisa G's works can be seen in galleries throughout Europe and now for the first time, here in Mexico.
DAVID ROY OCOTLA
David Roy Ocotla's evocative images of young faces and places are bold, contemporary and captivating. A mix of pop and classic, David's works deftly express the urban realities of his environment.
In 2017 & 2018 David exhibited at Art Expo Malaysia and Art San Diego. This year, his work debuted in Art Fair Tokyo. David is currently exhibiting in galleries worldwide, including Limited Edition Gallery in Miami. This is David's first exhibit in Merida.
Last year, Soho Galleries opened NoHo Casa del Arte, an alternative space from the 50s that offers an appreciation of art from another perspective and a meeting place for art lovers to gather together to enjoy culture from Mexico and all over the world.
NOHO has been planning an unprecedented project for quite a while. Combining fashion, art, cuisine, and music, The Hidden Garden is a collaboration of four acclaimed artists: Yucatecan fashion designers Kika Rodriguez and Aldrin Ayuso and Mexican visual artists Argelia Rojas and Jorge Alberto Aguilar Rojas (JAAR).
Marco Zamudio is one of Mexico´s most renowned artists. His work is called “realistic painting” and it is highly regarded for its ancient techniques linked to drawing, oil painting by glazes on canvas on wood; Renaissance techniques.
Marco contributed to the exhibition “Visions of America: Urban Realism” at the Museum of Contemporary Art in New York and at the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City with “Mexico in the 90´s A Self-Portrait “.
A Collective Experience
Art Runs through the veins of this famous Mexican Family of artists. Starting with Juan Carlos Breceda, Argelia Rojas and their son Jorge Alberto Aguilar Rojas.
SoHo Galleries is fortunate enough to have all three of this family of Mexican artists featured in their Saturday January 30, 2016 “LEGACY” exhibition beginning at 7PM.
Each artist’s works reflects the ties that bind them in their use of bold colors while each practices their own unique style and artistic expression.
Juan Carlos Breceda is currently one of Mexico’s most well known artists whose works are exhibited in galleries across the U.S., Mexico, South America and Europe.,rough brush strokes of contrasting colors, discarding depth or perspective creates simple forms filled with energy. Women and animals are the central theme in his work. A woman is repeated. Her enormous eyes, steady gaze and harsh features, do not diminish her softness or sensuality. His animals? The rooster, the bird, and the elephant convey simplicity in a real and sometimes magical world.
